VINYL AT ROOSTER
For a growing number of music listeners, vinyl is the once and now future king, the only format that stands the test of time. It's that luscious black plastic, those dusty grooves, the full-size technicolour cover art, the rich, vibrant sound and let us not forget, the collectability. It's a whole different way of experiencing music and it's easy to get hooked. And here at Rooster, we have literally tons of vinyl to choose from. Whether you're a serious collector, a DJ or just a casual listener, you'll find thousands upon thousands of new & used LPs, 7” and 12" singles, both on display and in our bulging storeroom. Everything from the £1 bargain bins to wall item collectables. We have huge vinyl sections for just about every type of music packed with all manner of goodies ranging from original rarities to brand spanking new releases.
We also specialize in stocking the very finest re-issues particularly from the psychedelic, progressive, jazz, soul, blues, folk, punk and soundtrack genres most of which are specially imported in by us from all across the globe. The vast majority are factory sealed and pressed on superior 180 gram or even 200 gram audiophile vinyl. In addition, there are box sets, coloured vinyl pressings and limited edition picture discs with new items arriving daily. We would, as well, dearly love to have all our new and used vinyl listed here on the site, but because of the sheer volume we have in stock, it’s just not possible at the present time. Maybe some time in the future!
CDs at Rooster
We have thousands of the shiny little beasts all at affordable prices. There’s even a £1 bargain bin! Every musical genre is accounted for and, unlike the main high street music stores (you know who you are), we love to stock hard to find titles, imports and deletions. We wish we had a pound for every time a customer has said “I’ve seen things in here that I didn’t even know existed on CD”. Although we stock a decent selection of new releases, we do have a penchant for obscure back catalogue titles particularly from the sixties and seventies.
Most of our CDs are brand new although we do buy used discs from the public if they are in at least excellent condition, paying a fair price in the process.
DVDS AT ROOSTER
We only stock music related titles and there are hundreds to choose from. Again, most are brand new straight from the wholesaler but we do also buy from the public.
We stock a huge range of new & used vinyl, CDs and music DVDs and the list below gives you some idea of the genres we aim to cover.
NEW RELEASES
We carry a healthy selection of new releases especially on vinyl. Many of these are imported in on a monthly basis from Europe and the U.S. although an increasing number are now pressed here in the U.K.
FIFTIES
Our fifties section includes most of the perennial rock ‘n’ roll favourites, oldies and various early vocal artists. “A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop-a-lop-bam-boom!”
SIXTIES
We have rows and rows of sixties psych, garage, beat and rock & pop CDs and vinyl. There are many original pressings and a very healthy supply of classic reissues on such great labels as Sundazed, Norton, Shadoks & Gear Fab, etc…
SEVENTIES
We love our prog rock so it’s no surprise that you’ll find tons of classic titles to choose from on vinyl and CD. Once again, there are some great reissue titles and as many original pressings that we can get our hands on!
PUNK / NEW WAVE
Plenty of punky stuff here. Both regular and the downright obscure! We’ve also got some great vinyl reissues. Oi! Get yerself down to Rooster.
ROCK & POP
Lotsa regular rock & pop titles to be found here. Generally artists from the seventies, eighties and beyond.
HARD ROCK / HEAVY METAL
Head bangers are made very welcome at Rooster. If heavy rock’s yer bag then we’ve got it. There are loads of seventies and eighties metal CDs & vinyl and in particular, a great selection of picture discs.
AMBIENT /AVANt GARDE
Contains a decent selection of electronic and experimental stuff with a toe firmly dipped into the Krautrock genre!
DANCE / ELECTRONICA
O.K. so we’re not a “dance” shop. But that doesn’t stop us from stocking a great range of dance, electronica, Ninja Tune, dub step and even a bit of drum & bass.
HIP HOP / URBAN
We pride ourselves on our amazing range of hip-hop LPs and 12” singles, many of which are especially imported from the U.S. There’s also a great selection of CDs.
INDIE ALTERNATIVE
Plenty of indie artists to choose from particularly on vinyl. We strive to stock the bang up-to-date LP releases, especially some of the more obscure ones!
DEATH METAL / NU METAL
Whether you’re into death metal, black metal, goth metal or Scandinavian metal, we’ve got it all covered. Just don’t ask us to play it. It clears the shop in seconds!
THRASH / NU PUNK
For all you punk revivalists out there, we’ve got a top selection of vinyl and CDs.
REGGAE / DUB / SKA
We know it’s hard to find original reggae vinyl in great condition but we still do our best to locate ‘em. And, there’s always a constant supply of terrific LP and 45 reissue titles as well as CDs to keep everybody smiling.
SOUL / FUNK
Whether it’s soul, rhythm & blues, funk, Motown or northern you’re into, we’ve got something for everyone. There are original LPs, tons of cracking reissues and a great selection of 45s. Boogie on down to Rooster!
JAZZ
Now yer talkin’! We can’t get enough jazz. We’ve got Blue Note’s coming out of our ears, loads of ECM, fusion, obscurities and everything in between. It’s jazz heaven!
BLUES
Whether it’s the twenties or the noughties, the blues is the blues and we’ve got plenty. “Woke up this morning…my baby’s left me…goin’ to Rooster Records…buy me some blues”.
COUNTRY
Not just country here. Throw in some bluegrass, honky-tonk, country rock and southern rock and you’re getting’ the right idea. Yee-haaaaaaa!

Also includes singer songwriters and the wonderfully termed “acid folk”. We always carry a great reissue selection of those holy grail titles and as many originals as we can find.
